About the Club
We currently run 2 classes each week on Tuesday evenings. Each class runs for one hour, the early class starts at 4:45pm and the later class at 5:55pm. Classes are held in the Clubhouse or Sports Hall depending on availability. Class sizes are limited to 12 people to facilitate good tuition and to comply with insurance regulations.
We also run a lunchtime class in the Hursley Village Hall. This is on a Monday at 11.50am. Class size is limited to 9 due to room size.
Classes follow the school term timetable with breaks for half-term and holidays. When there is sufficient demand a class runs during the long summer vacation.
The classes are of mixed age and ability. Newcomers are given an induction session prior to joining a regular class. When demand is high it is sometimes necessary to operate a waiting list for new joiners.
Normal classes involve floor mat work, with occasional use of stretch bands and weights. All equipment is supplied and participants are requested to help with set-up and close down.
Depending on the proficiency and desires of the class the instructor may elect to run a half term of "Ball Classes" using Swiss Style exercise balls. This provides additional exercise opportunities and introduces variety into the programme. Participants are expected to provide their own Swiss balls.
Normal sports/exercise clothing (eg T-shirt, tracksuit bottoms or shorts, trainers) is appropriate. Some members prefer to exercise barefoot.
Membership of the club is open to IBM employees, retirees, their immediate family and guests. Fees for the classes are based on the actual cost of tuition less the IBM Club subsidy and divided by the number of participants. Currently this equates to approximately £6 per session. The annual IBM Club subscription, £25, is also payable.
